Our Story
Flourishing Hearts, ladies bible study, started as The expat Ladies Bible Study several years ago as an activity within the American Women’s Club of Lagos(AWC). The group later expanded to include women outside the AWC. The leadership team meet to iron out details for the growing Ladies bible study group and outline plans for continued growth. Key decisions included placing the Expat Ladies Bible Study group under Logos Christian Fellowship’s (LCF) umbrella of authority.
Flourishing Hearts Conference 2021
Our upcoming Women’s Conference is titled, “My Identity in Christ,” is being sponsored by Logos Christian Fellowship(LCF) and Flourishing Hearts(Ladies Bible Study). Allow women are invited.
The Conference is based on Romans 8:20. Our lives is woven together, by our identity that is found in Christ, not by labels that may Change. A wrong assessment of our Identity leaves God out of our auto biography.
The “My Identity in Christ,” conference start from 9am till 4:30pm. The focus of the first session is discovering the roots of our identity in Christ and how it transforms us. The second session’s focus will be on what you can make of your identity in Christ and where it is taking you.
The day will be full of refreshing moments, lunch, music, gifts and many more exciting activities. Who we are today
A small group of women who participate in Bible study. We continue to host a very diverse mix of nationalities, church affiliations, personal backgrounds, and experience studying the Bible. For some, this is the first Bible study they’ve ever attended. Others may have studied the Bible for years but find this study offers new opportunities to deepen their walk with Christ. Overall, most find the Bible study and the friendships it offers truly important in helping them adjust to the constant challenges of expat life in Lagos.
Recently, it was decided that the Ladies Bible have a name and logo to best represent the group. Hence, the birth of Flourishing hearts. Why Flourishing hearts? Through studying the Word of God our heart is renewed and experience flourishing. A flourishing heart gives all glory to God in every sphere of life. When we are flourishing, we become mission oriented and become motivated to help others flourish.
Psalm 52:8 – “But I am like the olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.”
Biblical flourishing is not exclusive it is inclusive because it is made available to all people: men and women, children and adults, educated and illiterate, rich and poor, slave and free as stated in Galatians 3:28.
Flourishing Hearts forms a deeper relationship with God, while discovering God’s unfailing love.
What we Believe
- We believe that there is one God eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
- We believe that the Bible is God’s written revelation to man and that it is verbally inspired, complete, authoritative, and without error in the original manuscripts.
- We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, death on the cross to provide for our redemption, bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven, present ministry of intercession for us, and His return to earth in power and glory.
- We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, that He performs the miracle of new birth in an unbeliever and in dwells believers, enabling them to live a godly life.
- We believe that man was created in the image of God, but because of sin, was alienated from God. That alienation can be removed only by accepting through faith God’s gift of salvation, which was made possible by Christ’s atoning death on the cross.
Community
We meet every Thursday morning. Bible study starts from 9:30am till 12noon. We start with Devotional at 10am prompt, after which we take a short break and offer fellowship time with tea, coffee, and snacks(provided by volunteers) from10:30am till 10:45am. The remainder of the time is spent discussing the weekly homework assignments, prayers and could include watching a dvd.
Strict Confidentiality
We recognize that strict confidentiality is essential for enabling fellowship to develop and deepen within our small groups. As such, we ask ladies to agree to the following confidentiality statement.
“I recognize and respect the need for confidentiality at the Ladies bible study. I will be honest and open in my sharing according to my comfort level.” I will respect and maintain confidentiality within our small group.”
Bible Study
As is true of most bible studies, the more time you spend on your homework assignments during the week, the more you will get out of Thursday mornings. In addition, your small group will be blessed with your willingness and ability to share openly what God has uniquely shown you through His word that week. We encourage you to come on Thursdays and seek prayer and connection with your small group and other ladies in your bible study. We are confident that you will be blessed because you came.
